Midland Independent Financial Services Ltd (Midland) was an Independent Financial Advisory Firm based in Cannock. Midland has been trading since 1994 and went into liquidation on 25 th January 2022 after a number of claims were brought against them. Midland specialized in pension planning, life assurance, income protection, investments/regular savings, and mortgages. The firm has advised a number of clients to transfer their final salary pensions – also known as defined benefit pensions into a defined contribution pension plan or into higher–risk personal pensions such as SIPP. It has come to light that this advice was unsuitable and as a result, the clients have made a significant loss. If Midland’s negligence is established, The Financial Services Compensation Scheme has affirmed that it will pay compensation on the firms behalf.
